Kødbyen consists of three large areas – the White, the Grey, and the Brown Kødby. Kødbyen was built over a period of 50 years.
Øksnehallen in the Brown Kødby was completed as early as 1901. The White Kødby, with its functionalist architecture, opened in 1934. Both the Brown and the White Kødby are protected.
Today, Kødbyen is a trendy, creative mecca of restaurants, nightclubs, and art galleries, which thrive side by side with the butcheries.
